Here’s a recipe for making Korean fried chicken at home


  • 2 lbs chicken wings or drumettes
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup mirin (sweet rice wine)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp minced ginger
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup cold water

  • 2 tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp grated ginger


  1. In a large bowl, mix together the soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, minced garlic, minced ginger, salt, and black pepper. Add the chicken wings or drumettes to the bowl and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  2. In another bowl, mix together the flour, cornstarch, and baking powder. Add the cold water and stir until smooth.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Dip each piece of chicken into the flour mixture and shake off the excess. Carefully place the chicken into the hot oil and fry for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove the chicken from the oil and place it on a wire rack or paper towels to drain the excess oil.
  5. In a small saucepan, combine the ketchup, gochujang, honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently until the sauce is heated through and well combined.
  6. Toss the fried chicken with the sauce to coat it. Serve hot and enjoy!
